The railhead of Sikkim is New Jalpaiguri(NJP) in Siliguri from where trains are available to all major cities in India. Delhi can be reached between 21 to 32 hours depending on the train. Calcutta takes 10 to 12 hours and Bombay about 40 hours. The time table of the trains that pass through NJP can be seen at the end of this chapter.
Gangtok and Darjeeling have railway outagencies from where railway tickets can be booked for any section in India. Status of the trains running through NJP can be obtained from NJP Enquiry ((0353- 2691555 or 2691808).
You can catch a flight for Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati from Bagdogra airport in Siliguri. A helicopter service also operates between Gangtok and Bagdogra. Status of flights can be obtained from the Bagdogra Airport enquiry Jet Airways (( 0353-2538002;2538001) & Indian Airlines (( 0353-2551666). Status of the Helicopter service may be obtained from Helicopter Office(205492), Sikkim Tourism office or Gangtok Helipad (( 205277) or Bagdogra (0353-2531959;2551036). Buses for Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kalimpong also originate the Tenzing Norgay Bus stand (( 2514920) at Siliguri.
